MARC Advisory Committee (MAC)

The (northern) Midwinter meeting of the MARC Advisory Committee (MAC) has been postponed from mid-December to mid-January due to delays resulting from the recent US government shutdown. In a new initative, ACORD and NLA will solicit and gather Australian library community feedback on MAC proposals. This feedback will be incorporated into the NLA’s formal response. Watch this space!

Also in MARC standards news, MARC21 Update No. 41 is now available. Of particular interest is the newly redefined 245 $z Title statement context note: ‘Note providing immediate explanatory or historical context for the title statement, for example, when it uses obsolete or misleading language or when it is from an unclear source.’ Examples are listed on the MARC Bibliographic website.
