1. Committee Membership
Another round of EOIs for ACORD membership will be posted in the coming weeks. This round will seek to target representation from across the library sector, including interested parties from special and public libraries to ensure a diverse committee membership.
Within its current membership, ACORD is still seeking nominations for a new Treasurer.
The ACORD Terms of Reference is being updated to better reflect the roles and responsibilities shared across the committee’s membership. The document will be reviewed by the committee and submitted to ALIA in June.
2. Communications Update
ACORD Information Officer Alissa McCulloch is currently taking a well-deserved break. Communications updates will continue to be shared by Chair Nicole Hunt, Acting Secretary Sara Davidsson, and News Assistant Emma Coad.
3. ICIP Metadata Mapping
TSAC have planned to circulate a survey to assess how different libraries are flagging and processing ICIP material within Australian authorities and cataloguing standards. Before it is sent to the sector, the survey will be reviewed by Tui Raven from a culturally safe perspective.
4. ORDAC Update
ACORD are currently seeking another committee member to be an ORDAC representative. Three RSC proposals have been sent out for feedback. The countdown clock will commence this month, with Original RDA switched off one year from the start of the clock. The next ORDAC webinar will focus on how to navigate the Official Toolkit.
5. AI in the Library Catalogue
Chair Nicole Hunt is planning to host a round table discussion regarding AI use in cataloguing and library content with a focus on public libraries with the QLD Collections Network. Further information will be shared more broadly across ACORD and other networks.
6. Trove Metadata Manager
It’s been a year since Trove introduced the Cataloguing tool. Michela Goodwin and her team at NLA will be reaching out to the original working group and conducting a survey on how people are finding and using the tool.
If you find any data issues or something in the new system that is not quite working as you’d expect, Trove recommends checking the Trove Partners Cataloguing known issues register to see if the Trove team is already working on it. You can also provide feedback if you notice any new issues.
Round-up of Community of Practice and Project updates:
- Cataloguers’ Catch-Up – With Alissa on leave, the next catch-up will be facilitated by Melissa Parent and Michela Goodwin in July. There will be an opportunity to submit questions before the catch-up.
- NSLA RDA Project – After a mammoth run, both the MAPs and Policy Statement working groups are complete. There will be a 4-5 week testing period before the final working group, Workflows, commences.
- Schools Cataloguing CoP – Last week, a member from Schools Cataloguing Information Service (SCIS) presented on cataloguing non-book items for schools. This week, there will be another presentation on genrefication, with speakers expressing views from all sides (for, against, and a hybrid approach).
- Australian Subject Access Project (ASAP) – Survey on the use of subject headings and controlled vocabularies in Australian library catalogues closed 1 May.
