Reparative Description Community of Practice (RDCoP)

The Reparative Description Community of Practice (RDCoP) is an informal group to encourage discussion on technical aspects of reparative description practices in libraries and archives, and share effective practice on working with Indigenous people and community on reparative description in libraries and archives across Australasia. The role of the CoP may over time move focus to include other groups where updated description practices are required.

The CoP coordinates discussion around our focus areas for our three main stakeholder groups: Indigenous people and communities, library and archive staff, and library and archive users.

Meetings are held bimonthly on Teams, with ample space for general discussion.

To join, email education@alia.org.au with ‘Reparative Description CoP’ in the subject line. Please include in the body of the email your institution and a few words about why you’re interested in joining the group.

The Reparative Description Community of Practice (RDCoP) are seeking a new Co-convenor.

In this role, you will work in a team of three co-convenors to run a vibrant and well-respected community of practice with over 200 members from across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand, and across libraries and the broader GLAMR sector.

Tasks include organising guest speakers and meeting discussion topics, taking minutes, preparing agendas, and managing meeting chats. This year we are expanding our advocacy to sector bodies and other stakeholders to drive national policy and standards in this area, which co-convenors will be involved in. CoP meetings are held bimonthly, with co-convenor meetings held monthly. Total time required per month is roughly 3-5 hours.

To apply, send your name and a 100-word blurb outlining your interest in the position to our Returning Officer Jacqui Lucas at education@alia.org.au If necessary, a poll will then be held on the RDCoP Teams site. Applicants must be members of RDCoP to apply for co-convenor.
