NSLA RDA Project

📚 We’re excited that the Official RDA Metadata Application Profile Focus Groups have begun their work! During September, colleagues from across the Australian library sector are volunteering their time to test and provide feedback on draft Metadata Application Profiles.

We’d like to acknowledge the volunteers and thank them for their time, knowledge and enthusiasm.

LCSH Working Group

Following an industry roundtable earlier this year on the future of Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) in Australia, ALIA has convened a Working Group to explore options and make recommendations to a parent Steering Committee. The Working Group will meet for the first time on Tuesday 30th September.

TSAC

The Trove Strategic Advisory Committee has released their July 2025 meeting summary.

The next Take 20 with Trove, open to Trove Partner institutions, features an Authorities Research Update. The webinar will be held Thursday 2nd October at 12pm AEST.

ALIA

The Call for Proposals for the ALIA National Conference, to be held in May 2026, is now open. From the Call for Proposals Information Pack:

For 2026, we’re stepping away from a set theme to allow for broader conversations and deeper exploration. This open approach encourages proposals across all areas of practice and interest, reflecting the rich diversity and evolving priorities of our profession.

The Call for Proposals closes 12th October 2025, 11:59pm AEDT.

Additionally, there is an open EOI for current personal financial members who would like to join the Program Committee between 13 October and 9 November to review and provide feedback on proposal abstracts. Get in quick; submissions close 28th September 2025, 11:45pm AEST.

Slides are available from the recent WikiCite conference, held in Bern, Switzerland. WikiCite is a Wikimedia initiative to develop open citations and linked bibliographic data to serve free knowledge, based in the Wikidata ecosystem that powers Wikipedia.
